Senate Republicans Call For Withdrawal of Craig Becker’s NLRB Nomination
By Edwin S. Hopson
Earlier this month all 47 Republican members of the U.S. Senate signed a letter to President Obama urging him to withdraw the nomination of Craig Becker to be a member of the National Labor Relations Board, citing his inability to win Senate confirmation, his reversal of Bush-era Board decisions and his refusal to recuse himself in a number of cases involving the union Mr. Becker used to be employed by—Service Employees International Union (SEIU). The letter, among other things, also complained about the NLRB’s threatening four states with lawsuits to block recently enacted state laws passed to ensure the use of secret ballot elections to determine whether a union would win representation rights.
