Michelle Coughlin is outspoken about gender inclusion and female retention in the workplace, specifically in the legal field. She is the founder of MothersEsquire, a national bar association with more than 3,000 members, dedicated to increasing retention and promotion rates of women lawyers, particularly mothers, and supporting all lawyers who are parents or caregivers. She serves on the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and as the Communications Committee Vice Chair for the National Conference of Bar Presidents of the American Bar Association and on the KBA Diversity in the Profession Committee. Earlier this year, she was awarded the KBA Nathaniel R. Harper Award for her commitment to promoting full and equal participation of women, minorities, persons with disabilities, members of the LGBT community and other underrepresented groups in the legal profession through encouragement and inclusion. She was also named the Women Lawyers Association of Jefferson County’s Outstanding Member of the Year. This month, she graces the cover of Today’s Woman magazine and is featured in an article, “Moms as Equals.” In the article, Michelle talks about the reality of having two young children while starting her law career and the systematic barriers placed on working moms.
