Governmental Affairs & Regulated Industries

At Wyatt, we believe that representing our clients in their dealings with government agencies requires more than just an excellent substantive understanding of the laws and regulations under which our clients operate.  It also requires an understanding and familiarity with the regulating agency itself.

The members of our Government Affairs and Regulated Industries Service Team have a wide array of experience with those agencies, bolstered by the development of solid professional relationships with many of the individual regulators.  This comes not only from representation of our clients before those agencies, but also from the fact that many members of our Service Team have held governmental positions themselves, including the following:

  • Attorney General of Tennessee
  • Vice President and General Counsel of Memphis Light, Gas & Water
  • Executive Director of Kentucky Horse Racing Commission
  • Trade Fellow in the Office of WTO Affairs at the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office in Washington
  • Director of Civil and Environmental Law Division of the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office

Representative Matters

Just a few examples of the type of representation in which our Governmental Affairs and Service Team members have been involved are:

  • Representing a national corporation in a lawsuit brought by a state attorney seeking a basic change in that corporation’s business model;
  • Obtaining a favorable state Attorney General’s Opinion for a state trade association on a matter affecting the association member’s authority to operate in Kentucky;
  • Representing a Kentucky corporation in its effort to import thoroughbred racehorses from Canada;
  • Obtaining a reversal of the award of a state government procurement decision that our client believed was unfair;
  • Obtaining state approvals for a natural gas supplier to operate in rural areas before the Tennessee Regulatory Authority and Kentucky Public Service Commission
