Pharmacists May Provide Tests for COVID-19
April 10, 2020
On April 8th the Department of Health and Human Services announced that pharmacists can administer COVID-19 tests. The announcement is found here. This expansion of the testing workforce is meant to address the need for rapid virus testing and make testing sites more accessible, since large numbers of the population already live near pharmacies. Pharmacists are authorized to utilize serology testing, which checks a patient’s antibodies to help determine whether the patient is immune after contracting the virus. Pharmacists are also immune from any liability from administering the tests absent willful misconduct.
