As previously reported, all nursing homes are required to inform residents, families, and representatives of COVID-19 cases in their facilities and to report COVID-19 cases and deaths directly to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has also issued a memorandum to state survey agencies instructing them on the performance of on-site surveys of nursing homes with past or reported COVID-19 cases for the purpose of identifying and correcting violations of longstanding infection control practices.
