Briefing New In-House Counsel on Kentucky Healthcare Law

A national healthcare chain

Situation

A new in-house lawyer was appointed to oversee Kentucky operations for a national healthcare chain.

Challenge

Unfamiliar with Kentucky laws, the attorney asked Wyatt to gather information about some common situations that might occur.

Approach

Wyatt created a handbook so that the internal counsel would be prepared to address many common situations when they arose. Among other things, this handbook included information about who can make medical decisions when a patient is incapacitated, how to report patients with certain communicable diseases or dog bites, involuntary treatment of the mentally ill, and numerous other topics.

Result

The client was pleased and felt prepared to address many of those situations that might arise on Fridays at 5 p.m.
