CMS Updates Nursing Home Guidance and Visitation Recommendations

On March 10, 2021, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued revised guidance for nursing home safety standards and visitation recommendations in light of the administration of millions of COVID-19 vaccinations to nursing home residents and staff. The updated guidance allows for responsible indoor visitation at all times and for all residents, regardless of vaccination status of the resident or visitor, except for certain higher-risk circumstances such as when the resident is in quarantine. The updated guidance also recommends that “compassionate care” indoor visits should be allowed at all times. Additional information is available here and here.
