Cloture Vote on Craig Becker’s NLRB Nomination is Set

By Edwin S. Hopson

Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) had announced that a cloture vote on the nomination of Craig Becker to be a Member of the National Labor Relations Boardwais now set for 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2010.  However, due to the record snow fall in Washington, D.C., the vote was pushed back to Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at 5  p.m.  Debate on the nomination will occur before the vote. Since the Democrats began pushing Mr. Becker’s nomination forward, a number of business groups including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have stepped up their opposition efforts.

If all 41 Republican Senators vote against Mr. Becker’s nomination, he will not be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Senator Selby, Republican of Alabama, has put a hold on all of President Obama’s nomination according to the New York Times over a dispute related to a federal project in Alabama.  This means that in order for any Obama nominee to be confirmed a cloture vote would have to take place.
