James L. (Jim) Pettis III, partner-in-charge of the Jackson office of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs LLP, has been selected to chair the Taxation Section of the Mississippi Bar Association. This selection comes at a time of great uncertainty for individuals attempting to make decisions relating to their personal tax planning, depending on the results of elections in November and the potential “fiscal cliff.”
The Taxation Section encourages improvement and efficient administration of the state’s tax law. It also promotes the exchange of ideas among attorneys who share a common interest in state and federal tax law.
Pettis is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, the University of Mississippi School of Law, and the University of Florida, where he received a postgraduate law degree in taxation. Pettis also has served as chairman of the Health Law Section of the Mississippi Bar Association.
